Under the Tuscan Sun movie is one of my all time favorites.
Frances, played by Diane Lane, is a writer that desperately needs a change of pace. Her husband was unfaithful, and since his pregnant girlfriend wants to keep their house, he buys Frances out of it.
Frances moves into a furnished apartment with an assortment of depressed divorced people. Her friends decide not to take a planned trip to Tuscany and give her the trip as a present. At first, she protests, but after living in the apartment for a short time, she decides she needs to do something different. So, she goes to Tuscany.
Once there, France encounters a woman that relocated to live under the tuscan sun. Katherine truly lives in the moment, enjoying life. The first time Frances sees Katherine, she is at the market rubbing a baby chick against her cheek. She is completely ecstatic, reveling in the soft touch.
Katherine first encounters Frances looking at an ad for a villa in Tuscany and reminds her of some life-changing advice. She encourages Frances to buy it. At first Frances thinks it is a bad idea, but then she changes her mind when she sees it.
The contessa selling the villa is hesitant to sell the beautiful property that has been in her family for generations. She dclares that she needs a sign. After Frances' offer is declined, a pigeon soils on her head. The contessa declares that it is a good sign and sells her the 300 year old house.
Frances busies herself working on the house but is depressed because she feels there is a hole in her life. She is lonely and tells the realtor that she bought a house for a life she didn't have. She wants a wedding to take place in the house and a family to live in it.
Katherine tells her to stop wallowing in pity and forget about looking for happiness. It will find her when she starts living life.
Once Frances stops fretting over things and living in the moment, happiness finds her. And everything she wants comes to fruition.
Some of my favorite quotes from the movie:
Italians know more about having fun than we do.
You bought a house for a life you don't even have.
Between Austria and Italy there is a section of the Alps called the Semmering. It is an impossibly steep, very high part of the mountains. They built a train track over these alps to connect Vienna and Venice. They built these tracks even before there was a train in existence that could make the trip. They built it because they knew someday, the train would come.
I'm pretty good at staying entertained. Mostly, I like to hang out at a little bar I know, conveniently located in my backyard.
There's something strange about these trees. It's like they know.
You are my imagination come to life. You have to live spiritedly in many directions. Never lose your childish enthusiasm and things will come your way.
Regrets are a waste of time. They're the past crippling you in the present.
How are you ever going to be happy if you keep wallowing? When I was a little girl, I used to spend hours looking for ladybugs. Finally, I just give up and fall asleep in the grass. When I woke up, they were crawling all over me. So go work on the house and forget about it.
This delightful movie teaches us many things about harnessing the power of the Law of Attraction. Live in the moment. Do what makes you happy. Have faith that you will get what you want.
If you haven't seen this yet, I highly encourage you to watch it. And if you have, watch it again to see if you can find the Law of Attraction at work.
