I glorify You for who You are to me. There is no God like you, holy and mighty above all, (Luke 1:49) Nothing is too difficult for You. I enter into Your presence bringing with me your promises. You are God and there is no deceit or failure in what You have uttered. (Titus 1:2) When there is no way, I trust You will make one for me. (Joshua 2:10). You give me the wisdom and strength to create wealth, (Deuteronomy 8:18) And You will exceed every goal I set for myself. (Ephesians 3:20)

Prosperity Theology

Prosperity Theology is also known as prosperity doctrine, the health and wealth gospel or the prosperity gospel. Believers of this doctrine feel that God creates prosperity for his chosen followers.

The underlying belief to support this way of thinking is "Jesus blesses believers with riches." Prosperity preachers, such as Oral Roberts, became a strong proponent in the US after WWII. But it didn't become popular until the 1990's.

What is God's will about prosperity?

It would be hard to imagine that a loving God would only bless his favorites with riches. Why wouldn't HE want all of our cups to runneth over? Prosperity scriptures can be interpreted in different ways. But, the Universe is enormously abundant, and it is only our limited thoughts that keep us from living the dream.

Christian Prosperity

Others believe that it is not right for us to want money. They believe that the Bible contains prosperity scriptures which actually warn us from pursuing wealth.

  • 1 Timothy 6:10 - For a love of money is the root of all kinds of evil.
The love of money alone is not positive, but we all need money in order to accomplish all that we are meant to do.
  • Luke 12:15 - Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a man's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.
Envy is a destructive emotion and the object of life is not, "He who dies with the most toys wins."
  • Matthew 6:24 - You cannot serve both God and money.
You will repel wealth as long as you believe it is more virtuous to be poor.
  • Psalms 62:10 - If riches increase, set not your heart upon them.
This means that if riches increase, don't get caught up in the riches you get. Happiness comes from continual growth - don't stop and bask in past glory.

These prosperity scriptures appear to support the fact that pursuit of wealth above all else is not advised. But if you are properly following prosperity laws, you are not wishing harm upon others for your own gain.

Many spiritual people do not have financial prosperity simply because they have a drilled it into their minds that they shouldn't.
